MEET COLIN PETERS

Whats new on the island this year?

Well the amount of, I suppose you could call them, different / alternative nights. Like “Rock Nights” which is in either, Café Ole or We Love Sundays. Then “Tonight” openend yesterday , with A-trak, Nero and Union.

Now it seems lots of clubs have nicked the idea from Ibiza rocks and are getting live groups in to play. You’ve got “Privelige” on Sundays and then MTV on Fridays, which I’m looking forward to as -well, with Snoop Dogg, Kelis, Duran Duran and Primal Scream. I say the more the better to be honest. That’s the newest thing. It’s not just strictly house music anymore.

So do you think Ibiza rocks opened up the island to new styles of music?

Yeh I think they kind of started it, it’s just taken 6 years for people to realise there’s other ways of doing things, you know. Sometimes it takes time in Ibiza for other styles to crack through. So, yeh, I think Ibiza rocks was def the catalyst it’s just taken a while for people to pick up on it.

Is there a night or act in particular you are looking forward to?

There’s Rock Nights In the Red Box, Café Ole and We Love Sundays.
We love Sundays is always one of my favourite nights, it has been for a long time. Definitely some of the groups at Ibiza Rocks, like Friendly Fires and Metronome who are playing next week. Personally they are going to be my highlights because for me they have been two of the best groups of the year so it will be really good to see them live.
Primal Scream, Skream and Benga and Noisia are going to be a highlight and Jamiroquai because I’ve never seen him live so that will be good. He’s playing a Sunday in August at Privelige. It going to be like a proper concert really!

How does life change during the Ibiza winter season?

It’s a complete shutdown in the winter, it becomes like a little village. It’s really funny to see. I’m used to it being completely deserted with only a man and his dog walking along the beach! Then I was looking out at it a week and a half ago with all these mega yachts and the new Ushuiai Hotel, with loads of people rolling around in the sand, I thought, oh my god what a contrast. Pacha stays open and some bars with one or two little parties but it becomes really quiet and like a small town in the winter

Do you have any favourite spots to eat out?

There’s a place in town Bon Profit Which is really cheap but really good wholesome Spanish food. Also near my house in the centre there’s a little place that sells fruit and veg and they have a little bar next door called Es Tap Nou, Where they do these amazing, salads, for 6 euros or something like that’s. Really good value and it’s a really great salad!

I went to a place for the first time over the weekend called Can Caus in Santa Gertrudis, which is amazing. The meat is called Solomia in Spanish, which are really thin strips of steak. They’re served on a plate over hot coals and you can cook it yourself, so if you want it really bloody or really well cooked you can! The taste was phenomenal, it really was. Highly recommend it if you like meat.

Can you sum up Ibiza for us?

Sun, sea, sangria, sex and sounds!
